Sport Scope released their Smart Endzone Camera in 2018. It was the first end zone camera equipped with wireless iPad operation and built-in sideline instant replay. The Smart Camera brought together end zone camera and instant replay systems to make getting and utilizing game footage a simple and comfortable task.

While Sport Scope’s Smart Camera was a massive innovation in the industry, there was room for further improvement. New technologies released at the end of 2018 allowed Sport Scope to build an even smarter camera. Here’s what they did:

The Wireless Network

2018 Smart Camera - A two-point network managed all communications between devices. End zone camera footage was sent to the press box antenna. All iPads were connected via and received communications through the same press box antenna.

2019 Smart Camera - A new three-point network now handles all communication. Now, end zone footage is sent to a dedicated antenna in the press box. A second antenna now relays that footage and information to connected iPads on the sideline or in the press box. Separate antennas for each process increases speeds and reduces connectivity issues.

Takeaways: The improved network in the 2019 Smart Camera system ensures a strong connection and increased communication speeds. And with antennas now only managing one task at a time, issues with quality and dependability have been eliminated.

Smart Camera Computer

2018 Smart Camera - The 2018 Smart Camera utilized a 2016 model computer and recording device. However, the device did not have DVR capabilities, so rewinding for game footage review was not possible.

2019 Smart Camera - A new computer and recording device released at the end of 2018 is now installed in the 2019 Smart Camera. The new device is significantly more powerful, includes DVR capabilities, and provides faster and smoother video communications.

Takeaways: The newer, faster computers installed in the 2019 model Smart Cameras helps your network better perform its tasks. It also opens the door to exciting new features forthcoming.

Sport Scope iPad App

2018 Smart Camera - No DVR capabilities, occasional streaming and/or recording errors.

2019 Smart Camera - New DVR option, streamlined and intuitive user interface, and major improvements to the app’s streaming configuration. (It should be noted that many of these improvements apply to all 2018 models as well.)

Takeaways: The Sport Scope app is constantly being improved to create hardware and software that work and communicate seamlessly.

Storage and Organization

2018 Smart Camera - A single hard case provides storage and weather protection for all electronic components located in the end zone.

2019 Smart Camera - Electronic components are pre-installed and secured in individual hard cases for each location in the network: press box, end zone and sideline. Each case is now a plug-and-play package. New and improved batteries increase dependability and decrease set-up efforts. All three cases provide weather protection and are fitted with clear instructions for set-up and tear-down.

Takeaways: The 2019 Smart Camera system includes several more pieces than the 2018 model, but rearranged and pre-installed electronic components means less set-up time. Further, the included instructions simplify the set-up and troubleshooting processes.

Conclusion

The improvements implemented in the 2019 Smart Camera compared to the 2018 Smart Camera clearly display Sport Scope’s desire to make capturing, utilizing and reviewing game footage as simple and reliable a process as possible.
